One of the youngest museuns of the country was founded in 1989. It is situated in the centre of the city, in the building of 1927, which has historical importance as the first stone building of Murmansk. The museum has four exhibition halls, musical guestroom, fund storage and library. At the base of the museum collection are works of Russian fine art, given by the Regional museum of local lore. Funds are fulfilled with works, gifted or sold by artists and collections. There are more 3000 displays in the funds of the Murmansk art museum, among them are works of fine art, graphics, sculpture, items of decorative applied art. There are works by V.Favorsky, S.Konenkov, B.Iohanson, N.Romadin, E.Moiseenko, O.Eremeev, A.Bragovsky, V.Kharlov, D. Sveshnikov, S.Untunen, I. Bordesko, B. Neponyashy, N. Voronkov and the other artists. The constant exposition, devoted to the development of the Russian Art of the XVIII-centuries was opened in 1994. Museum pays great attention to the topic of the Russian North, creation of artists of the North and West of Russia. The works by V.Baranov, N. Morozov, M. Kirin, V. Bubentsov, A. Sergienko, A. Huttunen, N. Kovaleva and the others are presented in the museum. There are about 30 exhibitions of museum fund annually. The museum is avowed centre of art life of the Murmansk region. It connects with creative organisations and collectives, musical evenings take place in the Red guestroom of the museum, and meetings with artists and actors attract real connoisseurs of art.
